An old photo comes up: a picnic on an empty motorway, the first flight, a village fair. When was it taken? You drag your marker along a timeline, chat types years, and chat plays its middle guess. Three points come off for every year you are off, so a decade out still scores, and the closer side takes the round.

How a round works

One of 172 dated photos from 1850 to 2024, with the photographer's credit on it.

Move your marker along the timeline from 1840 to 2025. Arrow keys work too, and Shift jumps ten years.

Chat types a year
1969, or short: 60s, 1960s or '69. Each chatter's last guess counts.

Chat plays its middle guess
Chat's year is the median of every chatter's last guess, so one joker typing 1850 cannot drag it off.

The reveal
The real year counts up with a caption. Each side scores 100 minus 3 points per year off. After the last photo, the side with more points wins.

Fair scoring
100 points for the exact year, 3 fewer for every year off, 0 from 34 years off. A decade out still scores 70.

Your length
1 to 10 photos (5 by default) and 10 to 120 seconds per photo (30 by default). Mods set them with !rounds and !timer, and !pause stops the clock.
Questions streamers ask
What does chat type?
A year like 1969. Short forms work too: 60s, 60er and 1960s all mean 1965, and '69 means 1969. Each chatter's last guess counts.
How is chat's year made?
It is the median: every chatter's last guess, lined up, and the one in the middle. One silly year cannot move it far.
How are points given?
100 minus 3 per year off, never below 0. The round goes to the side that is closer, the game to the side with more points.
Where do the photos come from?
From Wikimedia Commons, all public domain or CC0. The year is the date recorded with each photo.
Does the streamer have to play?
No. In Chat only mode you just host, and every chatter plays for their own points.
